Usain Bolt.. Jamaica's Golden Boy

charity

Riding the subway everyday, at any hour, there are scores of people begging for money or help of some kind - the moms who tote small children around to tug at your heart strings, din own-on-their-luck men who claim they just got laid off and are waiting to be "processed" to start receiving benefits, people with varying levels of disability or afflictions, missing or maimed limbs, the mute who preaches with clucks and grunts instead of words, the couple who's been pleading for help for their "recently hospitalized child" for the past 6 years. We see them, we hear their pleas even when we pretend that we don't care and they are right there in front of us even if we don't want to listen. Sometimes we help - we reach into our pocket and offer some change, a dollar even. And we wonder if it's going to pay for food or shelter or into some drug dealer's hands for the next hit.
Does it really matter? I mean, we didn't really need that money anyway, right? If there IS a chance that we could really help someone who is in need, shouldn't we?

My mom is fine

Last week was scary. My mom was in the hospital for the first time since I was born... many, many years ago. I was afraid of what would happen mainly because I wasn't there... wasn't in Jamaica to sit by her bed and make sure that she is okay. I know there are others who share this fear because sometimes we think nothing bad will happen while we are watching. We feel like we can change situations through our attentiveness.
My mom is fine now and I am so thankful. And I learned that good things happen even when we're not there to make sure they do. Trust in the universe and the powers that rule it.

Thanks for reading

I've been writing journals since I was a little girl and my mom suggested that since I was always writing something, I should get them organized into a diary. I've gotten into trouble so many times due to botched security measures but I have never been deterred in wanting to record my thoughts and feelings.
This is just to welcome u to my page and invite you to join me for regular updates on life as I see it.
